The Historic Garden League maintains The Picket Fence, a source for gardening needs and garden-related crafts and Jos. Boston & Co., a historic property established during the Gold Rush period in the mid-1840s, which carries merchandise that reflects the early history of California.

Open 11-3 Thursday-Sunday, Casa del Oro (Jos. Boston & Co. store) depicts the "general store" as it existed during the gold rush period when returning miners could have their gold assayed and make necessary purchases.  Items for sale include local crafts and antiques and reprints of period publications.

HGL NOTECARDS

The Historic Adobe Collection of note cards,  was presented at the June meeting. Steve and Nancy Hauk, art gallery owners, and Diane Whitacre, graphic designer made presentations about the project.

Designed to promote appreciation of our Monterey heritage, this unique collection features paintings done in the early 1900s of four adobes including our own Casa del Oro. Packaged 12 to a box, they sell for $13.95 plus tax and provide a wonderful gift or stocking stuffer. The collection, shown below, may be purchased at The Picket Fence.
